What I want to see from the Republican Party

Let me put it in the simplest words possible: I want relinquishment of power back to the people. Anything less than that will lead to continued hemorrhaging of people away from the Republican Party and lead to support of a conservative third party.

What I want to see in the Republican Party can be broken down into the following planks:

1) Smaller government, for real this time. Substantial reformation is fundamental with a minimization of entitlements. These monies come out of our pocketbooks. No one should be entitled to reach in to our wallets to take money, especially a government that has grown out of control.

2) Term limits to end long term control of any seat. Any seat should represent the ever changing face of the American people. Life time politicians should be required to run for a different office to stay in politics, or, go back to the private sector.

3) Elimination of corporate lobbying of government. The influence of money in our government is unacceptable. Corporations buying influence of politicians, is reprehensible.

5) Smaller federal budget with laws against deficit spending. This will include living within our means. It may include pay cuts for employees of the federal government. Some entitlements will have to be cut.

6) Tax reformation in the direction of a flat tax. Real equality in the tax system is the only way to move forward. Double and triple taxation need to be eliminated. Death and Inheritance taxes should be eliminated to help families keep wealth.

7) Campaign reform to keep politicians in DC working instead of on the road campaigning, while they are supposed to be doing a job. This will need to be coupled with a limit in the campaign season to avoid the two year long campaign season seen in the previous election. Full accountability in public financing of political campaigns with no corporate donations. Now that we are in the computer age, there is no reason to withold this information. Every dollar amount should be viewable. Real transparency from elected officials should be non-negotiable.

I feel that the Republican Party let us down. Graft and waste are just as rampant among the right as it is the left. “Pay to play” politics is situation normal in Washington D.C. where money is power. That doesn’t represent us in Middle America, or our spending habits. Even though we have often felt powerless, we have taken this moment in time to stand up Republicans are considered to be just the same as Democrats, just with guns and bibles. Both parties have lead us down the road to socialism. Left and right are both representatives of “Big Government”. We need Republican to represent “Little Government”.

I even had a fellow Twitterer tell me that Republicans want socialism too, just slower with a little Jesus sprinkled on top. I think he was right about the socialism part. If we are headed towards bigger government, the big government that is handing out the most money will win every time. That is why the Democrats beat the Republicans.

I, a reluctant activist, have now taken on the role of talking to as many people as I can. I am writing blogs that represent my view of conservative America. I believe that everyone wants freedom more than they want a government dole. We need a voice that accurately reflects this growing awakening of citizens. The citizens are standing up and asking for this type of representation. I and many others are looking for leaders that will represent us.

Please represent me and others like me, before we leave too.

  1. Well said brother!! Unfortunately we have reached the point where people have discovered the bottle and have let the genie out. They have voted themselves in a sugar daddy.

  2. I wish more people felt this way!

  3. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

  4. Well said. I think the Republicans would do well to start leaning a bit more “libertarian” instead of the so-called “center”. The Tea Party Movement has shown thousands of their “former” supporters begging for liberty and freedom. They’d better listen in 2010.

  5. There are some very interesting ideas here, which need to be spread and around and discussed widely.

A program which embodies the smaller-government proposals then needs to be packaged, like the “Contract with America” was, so that it can be easily referred to, and put into legislative proposals that candidates who want conservative support would either have to endorse or reject.
